After announcing it would be arriving, Mercedes-Benz is debuting the SLS AMG GT Final Edition at the LA and Tokyo auto shows. Limited to just 350 units, this will be the last chance to buy an SLS AMG GT. It will be offered in both gullwing and roadster form.
Porsche is testing its new Macan compact SUV—set to debut next week at the Los Angeles Auto Show—on the track at its research and development center in Weissach, Germany. Luckily for us, they’ve chosen to document it on video and share it with the world.
We wanted to see how residential designers would look at a good example of automotive design. We were also curious to compare that reaction to our car journalist’s view and the view of consumers on the street. We chose the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque as our subject car because it is relatively new and we wanted a fresh evaluation. We also chose the Evoque because it is an attempt to create something of a new segment: the stylish, high-end, urban active lifestyle vehicle. Any time designers work in a new or nearly new segment, the design problem gets more complex because trial and error hasn’t vetted many ideas, some of which inevitably prove unsatisfactory. We drove the Evoque extensively around LA, through Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Venice and, of course, on the 405, the 105, the 5, the 10, the 101 and the PCH.
We need your help folks. Just like we did for the LA and Detroit auto shows, we’re going to put together a story featuring your favorite cars from the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
Thankfully, after making promises of cars with wildly futuristic technology to my hardworking life partner, the good folks at Audi were able to come through with a solution: the all new 2012 A7 equipped with Audi Connect. Audi’s in-car internet system would allow us to connect up via a 3G signal, wherever we went. The “Mobile Office” plan was thus enacted, and we prepared to drive simultaneously to NOLA and to The Future Of What Is Possible. A can’t-miss plan.
