Lexus is reportedly working on a successor to the LFA according to a new report on AutoGuide.
The 2012 New York International Auto Show press days are in the history books. This year’s show had a great mix of everyman automobiles like the Chevrolet Impala, Lexus ES, and Ford Explorer Sport, along with supercars and concepts, like the all-new SRT Viper, Shelby 1000, and BMW i8 Concept Spyder.
Lexus has unveiled its refitted ES at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. The standard ES350 will be joined by the first ES300h hybrid for 2013.
At the New York International Auto Show, Buick is showing its new Buick Enclave. For the 2013 model year, the three-row crossover gets new styling, safety technologies, in-vehicle connectivity, and a more refined driving experience, according to the company.
Lexus has taken the occasion of this year’s Geneva Motor Show to unveil its cosmetically refreshed, 2013 RX crossover.
This smooth and appropriately throaty V-8 feels just right in this big sedan. Throttle tip-in is quick without feeling too sharp, and the initial delivery of torque is linear and predictable.
The spy photographers over at Left Lane News recently snapped photos of what appears to be the upcoming 2013 Lexus ES, the luxury brand’s mid-level sedan. One of the most unique features spotted on this heavily camouflaged prototype is the appearance of a hybrid powertrain. An interior shot of the gauge cluster showed potential signs of electrification, which is significant because a hybrid option has not appeared on the ES before. As emission and economy standards increase, we’re likely to see more and more upscale vehicles like the ES receive the hybrid treatment.
The Tig has good size, is nice looking (the redesign was a good piece of work for VW), is easily maneuverable in the suburban sprawl, with confidence-inspiring AWD that will never need to prove itself on anything rougher than an icy street. The powertrain is, as is mentioned above, somewhere between “adequate” and “sort of fun” on the enthusiast spectrum, which puts it in the top-half of the crossover segment, at least.
The 2013 Lexus LX, the luxury answer to the Toyota Land Cruiser, bowed at the auto show in Detroit. We stalked it down on the show floor to bring you these images of the big ute.
Don’t ever question the cojones of Lexus’s CALTY design team, because they pulled off a stunner in the LF-LC Concet. This hybrid sport coupe looks even better under the lights of Cobo Center, and we’ve got the pictures to prove it.
The new Cruiser gets a refreshed nose and tail, with styling elements borrowed from the current Toyota Highlander. Inside, it’s mainly a matter of newer materials and trim colors, although Toyota’s Entune system is available as part of the standard hard-drive-based navigation system.
From Lexus, we’ll be seeing the LF-LC Concept. Designed as a two-plus-two sport coupe, the LF-LC is only a design exercise at this stage. If, its design language does end up adorning some future Lexus products, than the luxury brand is on a good path styling wise. The same “spindle grille” that we saw on the 2013 GS is there, but the aggressive fascia and sleek greenhouse aren’t exactly Lexus hallmarks (they do look excellent though). We also can’t complain about the classic long-hood-short-deck proportions
In the newest issue, we travel to Spain to drive BMW’s newest generation of the 3-Series at Catalunya. Plus, there’s tons of other car content in Winding Road Issue 77.
The 2012 North American International Auto Show will be hitting Detroit in about a month, which means it’s time to preview some of the upcoming production and concept cars that will be unveiled at the Detroit show.
In the world of mid-size luxury sedans, the big players have been the BMW 5-Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The Lexus GS, meanwhile, skated under the proverbial radar, lacking the performance cred of the 5-Series, the luxury cachet of the E-Class, or the sumptuous interior of the A6. It wasn’t a bad car, but even Lexus admits the Germans had dominated the market. Lexus is hoping to reverse that trend with the 2013 GS, and after a long day flogging it at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, we think Toyota’s luxury brand has got a pretty good shot of doing it.
As quickly as it began, the first media day of the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show is over. This year’s show featured no shortage of concept cars, including one designed by a racecar driver. As for production metal, there seemed to be something for everyone: exotics, hybrids, station wagons, SUVs, GTs, and sports cars were all well represented at this years show.
Lexus has taken the wraps off the next-generation GS, with the unveiling of the GS450h. Based rather heavily on the LF-Gh Concept from last year’s New York Auto Show, the GS450h features an exterior that’s best described as an evolution of the current GS.
There’s something magical about five liters of displacement divided among eight cylinders. Right now, Ford, Jaguar/Land Rover, Hyundai, and Lexus are using them in various vehicles, and we haven’t found one that’s let us down yet. Whether naturally aspirated or supercharged, they all sing a great song and provide a healthy kick in the pants.
As we drive the Lexus CT200h (and enjoy it for the most part), we’re reminded of some of the other fuel misers we’ve driven and responded to favorably (again, for the most part). We decided to compare a handful of these cars side by side, to get a visual understanding of how they perform.
The M-B has a very slight efficiency advantage over the Bimmer and the Lexus, and a very significant price advantage. MSRP (with destination) is just under $92K for the Benz, about $103K for the BMW, and a huge $113K for the Lexus. Both of the competitors have V-8 engines, meaning they absolutely destroy the S400, and its V-6, in terms of power.
Like your nearest Baskin-Robbins, it seems like there is a car for every person. Nowhere is that more true than in the entry level sport sedan market, where giants like BMW, Audi, and Lexus are taking on freshman entries like that of the Buick Regal. Each vehicle has a unique suite of powertrain options and infotainment systems that follows that brand’s particular philosophy, and therefore, caters to a certain sort of clientele. Thankfully, we’ve recently had some serious seat time in three of the top entries in this segment, and one exciting newcomer.
