Infiniti’s newest concept car, the slinky Emerg-E Concept seen here, plays up several recently prominent themes from within the larger Nissan world. First, the idea of an Infiniti “halo” car to bring further credibility (in this case, performance cred) to the luxury brand. Second, the importance of EV and range-extended-EV tech in Infiniti’s future portfolio.
The 2012 Geneva Motor Show will be the place where we will finally see, in its entirety, the much teased Infiniti electric sports car concept, which we now know will be called the Emerg E. With a mid-mounted electric powertain and sports car underpinnings, Infiniti is looking to blend sporting pretentions with “green” intentions. Like the Fisker Karma, the Emerg E will be bringing high-tech automotive technology into an entirely different market—and likely a different tax bracket as well—than where the majority of electrified vehicles current sit.
Consider the Fisker Karma ready for consumption. The EPA certification has officially finished, with the slinky Fisker Karma receiving a rating of 52 MPGe. EPA testers covered 32 miles before the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder kicked in to recharge the Karma’s batteries.

Ahead of its debut in Frankfurt on Tuesday, Fisker, maker of the Karma range-extended electric vehicle, has announced that it will be revealing the Fisker Surf.
Soon after this hotly anticipated first drive of the 2012 Fisker Karma at the infield handling circuit of California Speedway, we met up with Fisker Automotive principals Henrik Fisker and Bernhard Koehler on the floor at the recent Geneva Motor Show. They had various overseas publications opened to articles of their car strewn across a couple of back office coffee tables at their stand.
The Fisker Karma range-extended electric luxury sports car, Fisker has announced, will enter full-scale production in Finland, according to Automotive World. The first batch is scheduled to roll off the line on March 21, with production increasing to full build rate by October 2011.
