Jeep is honoring its heritage with an edition of the Wrangler called the Willys Wheeler Edition. The unique Jeep pays homage to the original civilian Jeep, the Willys-Overland CJ-2A.
Jeep has announced another addition to the Wrangler lineup, the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition, which the automaker promises will be “the most capable production vehicle ever.”
Check out our comments during our recent drive of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler. There’s a commenter named WannabuyaDiesel. He’s a rather strong advocate of a diesel-powered Jeep. While we can’t deliver the news that he so desperately wants to hear, we can tell you about four all-new diesel models that will be coming to the United States quite soon.
To prove its capability, we did what you’re supposed to do with a Wrangler, and got it really, really, really muddy.
Is the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk we just talked about too refined for your tastes? Do you enjoy the thrill of driving a vehicle that has no doors, no windows, or no roof (occasionally)? Then perhaps this Wrangler Moab Special Edition will be a bit more your style.
Called the Trailhawk, it debuted as a concept at the Moab Easter jeep Safari last spring. We’re happy to announce this isn’t just some badge-and-sticker job. Its eighteen-inch wheels are wrapped in Kevlar-reinforced Goodyear tires, for extra durability. It’s built to last as well, with a solid-steel rock guard protecting the underbody (on top of the Grand Cherokee’s standard protections). Power comes from either Chrysler’s award-winning Pentastar V-6 or the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8.
In a recent interview with Australian automotive website CarAdvice, Mike Manely, president of Jeep, hinted at the company being excited about the idea of Jeep pickup and that Jeep would make a decision to build such a vehicle “pretty soon”, potentially for 2015 when the next generation Wrangler appears.
Jeep took the wraps off of a Wrangler Concept at the 2012 Auto China show in Beijing. The Wrangler Dragon Design Concept features a dragon motif, inspired by the 2012 being the year of the dragon.
The most famous brand in all of off-roading, Jeep, is reportedly set to unveil not one, not two, but six new concepts at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah, according to a recent post on Carscoop.
I attended the launch event for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler only a few short months before are Toyota FJ Cruiser loaner arrived at the office. What strikes me about the FJ is how it drives so differently than the Jeep, while still being almost as capable on the trail.
Come along for the ride as we take the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon into its natural habitat and get it all muddy.
The pro and college football seasons are well and truly underway, which means if you haven’t been, you need to start thinking about tailgates. Keys to a good tailgate vehicle include storage, looks, and seating among others. Oh yeah, and as per WR rules, they need to be pretty good to drive too. Go Blue!
In celebration of the 2012 Wrangler, we’ve strung together some of the highlights of its long history. Starting off as the vehicle that helped defeat Hitler, the Jeep has soldiered on for 70 years, delivering affordable off-road performance that can’t be beat.
If we had to hand out an all-star award for best brand to come out of the Chrysler bankruptcy, it would more than likely go to Jeep. The venerable off-road brand went from having a portfolio of lackluster vehicles (SRT8 being a notable exception), with shoddy interiors a few years back to being the darling of the Chrysler universe. First, it was the debut of the all-new and drastically improved Grand Cherokee. Then the Liberty and Wrangler received new, upscale interiors. Most recently, Jeep debuted the second-generation Compass, which is a dramatically better vehicle than the one it replaces.
The Nissan XTerra reminds me of my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport I used to drive. Firstly the suspension is pretty stiff over the smaller imperfections, but there’s still a lot of bounce in the front springs. While that may seem a bit annoying driving in the city, it makes for good articulation off-road. Secondly, when I shifted the XTerra into four-wheel drive, turning becomes a wholly different affair. Especially with the steering wheel near lock in either direction, the power steering fights against you, and the car is reluctant to turn sharply. I encountered this problem in my old Jeep, and was surprised to find it in a new vehicle. It’s not a big deal, just weird, and probably alarming to a driver who hasn’t encountered it before. The third similarity was in the simplicity of the layout of instruments and switchgear—a good thing in my opinion.
For every amazing deal we spot on eBay Motors, we find maybe a dozen or more horrendous potential bilkings. Especially around times like these, where very high gas prices are throwing many established values out of the door, there are more than a few sellers out there with some awfully wrong-headed ideas.
When talking about factory-backed aftermarket tuners, fewer names are held in higher regard than Mopar. The brand was synonymous with Dodge and Plymouth performance vehicles during the muscle car wars of the 1960s. Since then, it has turned from pure performance tuner to a manufacturer of aftermarket items for all the brands under the Chrysler umbrella. Seeing an opportunity to demonstrate the its expertise, Chrysler is showing several Moparized vehicles at this year’s North American International Auto Show.
You know the kind of movie where you think, “That’s so bad, it’s good?” Well, the Jeep Wrangler is sort of like that.
Like video games? Like cars? Well, kick the tires and light the fires as Jeep gets ready to unload the action with the 2011 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition.
