All-in-all, we really enjoyed using and reviewing the Garmin Catalyst Driving Performance Optimizer for HPDE/track day purposes.
WindingRoadRacing.com now has the nifty new AiM Solo 2 DL in stock. The Solo 2 DL, as you may recall, is an upgrade to the beloved Solo DL. The Solo 2 DL adds warning lights (which can be used as shift lights or to indicate progress in sector times) to the great Solo DL features. The Solo 2 DL also now features WiFi connectivity to your laptop. This makes downloading data easier (no more lost cables).
Winding Road Racing will host a two-day AiM training seminar on February 23rd and February 24th. The seminars will be presented by Roger Caddell, AiM Sports National Training Manager.
AiM Data Systems recently announced an upgrade to our favorite lap timer and data system, the AiM Solo and Solo DL. We are thrilled to see the changes they’ve made by introducing the AiM Solo 2 and Solo 2 DL (and just as importantly the features they’ve retained).
Let’s assume that you know you want a data system for your race car, because you want comprehensive data for review after a session on track. You also want a dash capable of displaying critical information like predictive lap times, shift lights and alarms so that you can do a better job in real time when you are behind the wheel.
Data is essential for driver development, it is as simple as that. You want the right data in the cockpit while you are driving, and you need the right data when you get out of the car and are working with a coach or other drivers.
Chevrolet announced at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show that the 2015 Corvette Stingray will come with an optional Performance Data Recorder, which will not only give ‘Vette drivers a chance to review valuable track data to improve their performance, but will also almost certainly translate into exponentially more Corvette-based dash cam videos for the Internet to enjoy in the very near future.
I’m sure everyone reading this knows about data systems. We’ve all seen it in other people’s cars, maybe we have one, and have watched the cool traces on TV in all the racing series showing a driver’s throttle or brake application and speed. If you are a fan of F1, ALMS, Grand Am, or one of the other big race series, you’ve seen the pit boxes full of computers, monitors, and a myriad of race engineers.
No, this isn’t a toy or part of a simulator. It’s a new, real steering wheel, and it combines precision handling with programmable buttons, real-time information, and data acquisition. It even has optional paddle shifters. If you’re looking for an advanced tiller that will help you to drive faster and shave time off your laps, the handcrafted carbon fiber and leather AIM GT Steering Wheel may be just the thing.
