Dimensionally, the new 3 is significantly more aggressive than the car it replaces, measuring up at .6 inches lower and 1.6 inches wider. The wheelbase has been stretched 2.4 inches, while the overall length is down 1.8 inches. That means the 2014 3 is wider, lower, and has shorter overhangs than the car it replaces.
Mazda has been making quite a hullabaloo about an impending vehicle debut on Microsoft’s XBox Live service. This new car, we were told, would be a #gamechanger. With the debut slated for tonight, the rumor mill has been grinding away on what new vehicle the Zoom-Zoom brand would be showing.
Throughout those adventures, the tossability and fun-to-drive nature of the CX-5 remained a talking point. A bigger talking point, though, was the absolute lack of power. Mazda built an entertaining crossover, but it was too underpowered to live up to its suspension’s potential. Thankfully, that’s been solved for the 2014 model year. Joining the 155-horsepower, 150-pound-foot, 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-pot is the brawnier 2.5-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder from the Mazda6 (review coming very soon).
That whole “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” sentiment rings pretty true, especially when it comes to cars. The Nagare design language (you probably know it as the smiley face front grille on all Mazdas) on the outgoing generation of the Japanese manufacturer’s lineup that garnered rather lukewarm acceptance, is being phased out in favor the more muscular Kodo design theme. Kodo has already been shown on the CX-5 and all-new Mazda6, and now the full-size CX-9 will be benefiting from the restyling.
So yes, the paper argument for the 1.6 EcoBoost is extremely compelling. But what’s it like on the road? Well, quite good, actually. The charm of Ford’s EcoBoost engines is how they perform at the low end of the spectrum, where most drivers spend most of their time. With a torque peak of just 2500 rpm, the Escape gives the illusion of a much more substantial powerplant under its hood.
Mazda has unveiled the 2014 Mazda6 ahead of its debut at the 2013 Moscow Auto Show. The new mid-size sedan’s design is heavily influenced by the Takeri Concept that we saw at the 2012 New York Auto Show. This is a good thing.
Mazda has given us a hint at what it’s new-for-2014 Mazda6 sedan will look like. Not surprisingly, it shares the handsome good looks of the Takeri Concept that debuted at the 2012 New York International Auto Show.
Officially, this is the Mazda Takeri Concept. Don’t let the name fool you, though, this is essentially the 2014 Mazda6.
With the 2013 CX-5, Mazda is starting with a blank slate. This clean-sheet design will be Mazda’s volume crossover, as the CX-7 and Ford Escape-based Tribute will be (or already have been in the Tribute’s case) phased out.
Mazda is jumping into the small SUV/CUV foray, and getting ready to take on vehicles like the Ford Escape and Honda CR-V. The advantage the CX-5 will have going is that it will come to market with the same Skyactiv 2.0-liter four-cylinder that we tested recently in the Mazda3.
This is the Master Landing Page for the Mazda CX-5. From now on, as we further review this car, we will be updating this page with whatever fresh content we create. Future drive reviews, updated specifications, videos, and other relevant information will all be found right here, in one convenient spot.
Mazda has just unleashed a few images and some critical information on its new CX-5 crossover, which is set for a world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Our spy caught this interesting find—a smaller Mazda crossover doing some winter testing.
