The Saleen Cup debuted this past Sunday at PIR during the weekend’s SRO events. While numbers weren’t massive, it was still great to see this much-anticipated cup series come to fruition and prove that they’re a really potent chassis.
This video shows the opening lap of a Porsche Club race at Road America. Team WR driver Tom Martin had some extra adventure in T5, T11A and T13. He reports “just driving the car is exciting enough, so the bonus thrills were completely unnecessary. But thanks anyway.”
For first time ever Mazda Motorsports, in a collaborative effort with Long Road Racing, has developed and will be selling race-ready MX-5 Cup cars straight from the company’s factory in Hiroshima. The all-new ND-generation racers will be delivered with sealed motors and encrypted race-spec ECUs to prevent tampering, as the Cup cars also usher in Mazda’s new global racing series that will be held in North America, Europe and Asia, all in identical spec-tuned versions of the new Cup car.
This week we’re onboard with Team Winding Road Racing driver Tom Martin III in Winding Road Racing’s 2006 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car for the Group 10 / Modern GT race at the HAWK International Challenge at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. As you’ll see in the clip, Road America is an interesting track when you’re faster in the corners and slower on the straights.
