Winding Road Video: 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 — POV Test Drive

Oddly, the Challenger’s suspension felt softer and less poised than the Chrysler 300 SRT8 we tested back in May. Regardless of which of the three suspension modes we set the Dodge in, there was more vertical movement and roll than in the 300’s equivalent mode. The sedan offered up a flatter, grippier handling experience that instilled more confidence as we pushed down the road.

Driven: 2014 Acura RLX Advance

Our time with the RLX was quite revealing. It’s not, as we’ve established, a very sporty or fun-to-drive car. While we’d bemoan this fact, the reality is that there’s this tendency in the market to deliver far more performance than most buyers need, often at the sacrifice of comfort and refinement. The RLX is the inverse of this philosophy, prioritizing its occupants rather than just its driver. Every once in a while, we like that change.

SRT Reveals Track-Oriented Viper TA

SRT is offering this, the Viper TA. With the “TA” standing for time attack, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this Viper is designed for track duty (although it is, in fact, street legal). First and foremost for the TA is a bespoke suspension tune, oriented towards on-track ability. A two-mode Bilstein suspension offers stiffer damping over the “standard” Viper, while springs and sway bars have also been refocused. A carbon-fiber x-brace takes the place of the of the aluminum unit found in lesser Vipers.

Quick Drive: 2013 Lincoln MKS EcoBoost AWD

The problem with the Lincoln MKS is this. It is essentially a Ford Taurus SHO. This is a good thing, as we like the SHO a great deal. It’s a big, comfortable, fast, well-equipped sedan, and is a sportier, cooler alternative to the blingtastic Chrysler 300C. The MKS, meanwhile, seems rather supp. Which means its $49,800 starting price is pretty offensive, especially considering the SHO starts at $39,200.

First Look: 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk

Called the Trailhawk, it debuted as a concept at the Moab Easter jeep Safari last spring. We’re happy to announce this isn’t just some badge-and-sticker job. Its eighteen-inch wheels are wrapped in Kevlar-reinforced Goodyear tires, for extra durability. It’s built to last as well, with a solid-steel rock guard protecting the underbody (on top of the Grand Cherokee’s standard protections). Power comes from either Chrysler’s award-winning Pentastar V-6 or the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8.

Driven: 2013 Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4X4 3.6

On the road, the 2013 Ram 1500 was nothing less than the smoothest-riding pickup we’ve ever tested. Secondary motion, notably that obnoxious shuddering sound that you hear and feel when you hit a big bump in a regular truck, was precisely controlled. It’s this quality that gives the Ram a feeling of real solidity. What pass for potholes in Tennessee just couldn’t disrupt the smooth ride, with little in the way of impact noises or other disruptions. There was some vertical motion over undulating roads, but by and large the Ram feels nicely planted and composed.
