Chris Amos recently got up close and personal with the Prodrive Subaru rally car – a two door race-spec Impreza boasting 280 horsepower, a five speed manual gearbox, speed-sensitive rack and pinion power steering, and a curb weight of just 2858 pounds. While the Prodrive Impreza with hit 60 mph from a standstill in 4.8 seconds and reach a 155mph top speed, to get a real sense of what the Impreza P1 is all about, we needed to experience the car in rally-like conditions.
Mercedes-Benz has taken the bold step to venture downmarket with the new-for-2014 CLA-Class, which starts at a paltry $29,900 ($36,545 as tested). So, what does $30k get you in new a Mercedes-Benz? Spolier alert: the snow tires are no match for Chris’s lead foot. When was the last time you threw in some opposite lock at 3mph?
This week Chris Amos goes for a ride in a Mazda MX-5 that’s gained some serious motivation by way of an LS1 V8 sourced from a 2004 Pontiac GTO. Shortly after this stripped out beast was built, the owner came out to Gingerman Raceway to do some testing and get a feel for the car. We take you along for this slightly terrifying, but awesome, ride.
