For the twelfth time since 1978 the Indianapolis 500 will be paced by a Chevrolet Corvette. That shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Corvette has had the honor of leading The Greatest Spectacle In Racing more than any other car. In fact, the last time there wasn’t a Chevy pacing Indy was 2001, when an Oldsmobile lead the field.
Almost as delicate as the striptease that preceded the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray’s debut before the North American International Auto Show in January, is the release of details on the new car. We showed you the full option sheet last week, which had all sort of valuable information. What we couldn’t show you, at the time, was the kind of damage that option sheet would do to your pocketbook.
So, really, we’d accepted the fact that we wouldn’t get to drive Chevy’s black-hooded 1LE. That is, until our schedule went completely haywire, and we were offered a 1LE, complete with a massive set of Pirelli Sottozero snow tires, as a last-minute replacement for a canceled loan. So, our Victory Red Camaro arrived, sporting the aforementioned tires and hood, and with that, a special dose of attitude.
Ford discontinued the Mustang Boss 302 after two years on sale. This, the Ford people said, was all part of the plan. The Blue Oval only planned on offering the best Mustang in decades for a mere two years, rather than making it a staple of the lineup. This was a mistake, not just because the Boss 302 was awesome, but because arch-nemesis Chevrolet had a track-focused muscle car of its own on the way.
For 2013, the COPO Camaro will be available with three V-8s: a base 350-cubic-incher with 325 horsepower, a 396 with 375 ponies, and a 427 with 425 horsepower. Each engine, when fitted with the new, manual-transmission option, qualifies for the NHRA’s Stock Eliminator classes.
Chevrolet has unveiled the new Corvette Stingray Convertible at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The droptop Stingray follows the unveiling of the Coupe at January’s North American International Auto Show, and is largely a carryover of what we saw in Detroit.
This is the Master Landing Page for the Chevrolet SS. From now on, as we further review this car, we will be updating this page with whatever fresh content we create. Future drive reviews, updated specifications, videos, and other relevant information will all be found right here, in one convenient spot.
The VF Commodore sports a cleaner, less aggressive exterior. As the Chevrolet SS will essentially be a Commodore with new front and rear fascias, this should give you a good idea of just what America’s next sports sedan will look like. Our opinion? It’s not going to be a bad looking vehicle. And more importantly, because its a rear-drive Australian car, it should be an utter hoot to drive.
Here’s a little eye candy from our own video vault to start your weekend off right. Here, the talented Chris Amos takes us on a tour of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit show floor last month.
Our problem with the Cruze is this; It is not cheap. Unoptioned, it starts at $25,695, or only slightly more than a mid-range Jetta TDI (a basic, entry level TDI can be had for $23,055, though). But the Cruze is going to be parked in the showroom next to a car that looks identical, returns the same 42-mpg highway number, and has a starting price of just $20,490 (that’d be the Cruze Eco, for people still guessing). Importantly, the cost of diesel is generally higher in the US than gas. Pair that with the extra $5000 that the Diesel demands and the fact that it’s no more efficient than the Cruze Eco, and we’re starting to wonder how Chevy dealers are going to move this oil-burning sedan.
We could do a whole series on this one. Probably the great engine type in the “if you could only have one” sense. Shown here is what we think is the iconic V-8, the small block Chevy.
Traditionally one of the first announcements of the North American International Auto Show, we now know the winners of the North American Car and Truck of the year.
Aching for more images of the all-new Corvette Stingray? We’ve got a nice set of images from last night’s official launch, including some closeups and pieces of the press conference. The first few shots are particularly cool, as information was being projected on to the covered Stingray.

Cadillac’s 3-Series fighter is a winner. We try to avoid bombastic statements here at Winding Road, but it’s quite difficult when a vehicle is as good as the ATS. Never before have we seen a vehicle that seems so able to dethrone the mighty 3-Series, and in turn become the new measuring stick for the sports sedan segment. It’s great to look at, both inside and out, but more importantly it is absolutely excellent to drive.
When an automaker announces a more powerful version of one of its vehicles, it usually makes us quite happy. Generally (but certainly not always), more power means more fun. So it was with some joy that we greeted the news of Buick’s new turbocharged Verano. With a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-pot under its handsome, portholed hood, it packs 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.
We’re inching closer to the official debut of the production Chevrolet SS. Until then, let’s enjoy the racing version, set to compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup in 2013. It’ll make its racing debut at the 2013 Daytona Speedweeks, ahead of its production debut at either the Detroit or New York Auto Shows.
Kia has unveiled a significantly updated version of its four-door Forte at the LA Auto Show. The new compact will do battle with the likes of the Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, and Chevrolet Cruze.
With each successive year, the electric vehicle is looking more and more like a realistic alternative to gas. Just take a look at how the segment has expanded, with offerings from Toyota, Honda, Ford, and Nissan. Now, GM is getting back in the EV game, offering an electrified version of the Chevrolet Spark.
At first glance, these new spy photos—courtesy of Automobile—seem to be of a new Ford, what with the conspicuous oval shaped badge in the center of the grille. However, we have been assured that this is actually the 2014 Cadillac Escalade in heavy camouflage.
Chevrolet has announced production of the Sonic Dusk ahead of its live debut at SEMA in Las Vegas next week. First shown as a concept last year, the Sonic Dusk will begin production in 2014.
