NISMO, Nissan’s performance arm, has always been a bit of an odd duck. It never had quite the sanctioning of AMG or M, or even F-Sport, instead being relegated to a 370Z with a tweaked suspension and an aftermarket parts catalog. That’s all set to change, as NISMO is now the official global performance car and motorsports sub-brand for Nissan.
According to the Wall Street Journal Nissan is bringing back the Datsun brand in an attempt to provide affordable car ownership—very affordable, hoping to offer a car for just $3000 to $5000. Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan, has committed to offering six Datsun models, beginning in 2014.
Unlike pure concept wizardry like Geneva’s Infiniti Emerg-E, what you are looking at here is likely to make production. This is the Infiniti LE Concept, and all of it, including a fair chunk of the styling should arrive in your local Infiniti showroom by 2014.
Nissan has debuted the redesigned 2013 Altima at the New York International Auto Show.
It may not be coming back to North America, but the Datsun nameplate is set to return to the automotive stage. The announcement was made during a press conference in Jakarta, Indonesia by Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.
