WR TV: 2016 Cadillac ATS-V (6MT) Canyon Drive

Ever since GM sought to re-energize its luxury brand a decade or so ago, it has made it a cornerstone of their mission as a company to beat the Europeans at their own game – namely making fast, capable, and stealthy performance machines. Those marching orders continue with Cadillac’s ATS-V. It’s no easy task, however, with BMW’s new M3 sedan and M4 coupe becoming the new standard bearer and the Mercedes-AMG C63 already winning praise around the world.

Driven: 2016 Cadillac ATS-V

GM’s luxury brand has made it a cornerstone of their mission as a company to beat the Europeans at their own game, and those marching orders continue with their latest V-Series offering. The segment is a hotly contested one filled with worthy contenders – from Audi we’ve got the RS5, Mercedes-AMG has the new C63, and BMW, the company that defined this segment in the first place, has a new M3/M4.

Rumors had been circulating that Cadillac might have been putting the current CTS-V.R race car out to pasture after this season, and it turns out that the speculation had merit. In its place will be the ATS-V.R, and if you think that the change is only skin deep, we’ve got some news for you.

Update: Official 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe Images and Specs Leaked

Late last month we got word that the sportiest of all ATS Coupes would be coming to the Los Angeles Auto Show packing a pair of turbochargers, and around the same time, spy photographers captured the ATS-V completely undisguised as it was being unloaded for a photo shoot. Now official shots of the coupe have leaked online, and some specifics about the powertrain have come along for the ride as well.

Rumors: 2015 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe Spotted Ahead of LA Reveal Packing a Pair of Turbos

While we’re certainly fans of the ATS Coupe in its standard form, and found plenty to like about the CTS Vsport, it’s been a while since we’ve seen a Caddy get the full V treatment. But if these spy shots are any indicator, it looks like the wait is just about over, as the upcoming ATS-V Coupe was spotted completely exposed during a photo shoot ahead of its LA Auto Show debut next month.

Driven: 2015 Cadillac CTS Vsport

With competition from the likes of the BMW 5-Series, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and the Audi A6, it’s clear that Cadillac faced an uphill battle when they brought the CTS into the midsized sport sedan fray back in 2002. Since then we’ve seen the CTS-V best the Germans on their own turf with a record-setting Nurburgring lap time and a steady series of tweaks and refinements as the car matured but, performance notwithstanding, there’s always been a sense that while the CTS made for a great midsized sports sedan, it still existed a step or two below its European rivals as an overall package. Last year marked the debut of the all-new third generation CTS, which brought with it a striking new design, a longer wheelbase, a lower roofline, and debut of the Vsport trim level which slots between the base model and the as-yet unannounced CTS-V. Even a brief glance at the new car made it clear that Cadillac was in it to win it with the new CTS, but with the firm foothold of the established players in the segment, would it be enough? We spent a week with the CTS Vsport to find out.

Driven: 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe 3.6L Premium

When Cadillac rolled out the high performance CTS-V sedan, along with its subsequent coupe and wagon counterparts, it started to become clear that fairly sweeping change was underway for the company. In the ensuing years, there’s been a concerted effort to change public perception of Cadillac from the go-to choice for reasonably well-heeled pensioners to something more youthful, relevant, and performance oriented. Or to put it another way, more BMW-like. But to truly complete with BMW, they needed a worthy 3-Series fighter, and that’s just what we got with the all-new 2013 ATS sedan – a tour-de-force of GM’s latest engineering efforts designed specifically to beat the German’s at their own game. The sedan has earned high praise from critics and consumers alike, but if Cadillac wanted to achieve parity in the segment, they’d also need an answer to the two door BMW 4-Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class as well. Enter the 2015 ATS Coupe.

Rumor: All-New Cadillac Flagship to Arrive in 2015

Cadillac has been in need of a halo car to carry the torch for the brand and allow GM’s luxury brand to go toe-to-toe with luxury brands like Audi, Lexus, and BMW for some time. A large sedan platform clearly fits that bill, and with the current XTS on the way out, there’s been quite a bit of speculation about what might fill its place. It turns out that General Motors global product chief Mark Reuss also feels the same way, and has said that a new vehicle, codenamed the LTS, is currently in development.

Update: Cadillac CTS Gets Freshened Up for 2015

It might not seem like so long ago that Cadillac introduced an all-new CTS to the motoring public, and in fact, it was only last year that we first saw Cadillac’s new mid sized sedan. Regardless, the company saw fit to tweak a few things for 2015, and we have the details on what’s in store.

WR TV: 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ

While we enjoyed our time in the all-new 2015 Cadillac Escalade, its that luxury SUV’s blue-collared cousin, the Chevrolet Tahoe (and its long wheelbase variant, the Suburban), that will really steer the course for this generation of GM’s full sized sport utilities.

Preview: 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe

GM has had its sights set squarely on its German counterparts for a while now, and the next step in their plan of attack involves bringing their newest bag of tricks to the hotly contested battleground of compact sports coupes. To that end, at this year’s Detroit Auto Show Cadillac rolled out the ATS Coupe, a car designed to go to toe with the likes of the BMW 4-Series and the Mercedes Benz C-Class. If the specification sheet is any indicator of what to expect from the new diminutive Caddy, the Europeans would be wise to take notice of what’s in store from The General.

Driven: 2014 Cadillac XTS Vsport

One of my earliest automotive memories is of my father’s 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. As a wee lad, I remember a car that was seemingly endless in size, power and presence. Awash in leather and chrome, this was clearly a vehicle whose main mission in life was to announce to the world that the owner had arrived – both literally and figuratively. As the current flagship model of the Cadillac brand, in many ways the XTS is the spiritual successor to that Fleetwood. But where the Fleetwood had a more or less singular design goal from the onset, the XTS Vsport is asked to do a number of things well – some of which are intrinsically opposed to one another.

Quick Drive: 2013 Cadillac ATS 3.6

Cadillac’s 3-Series fighter is a winner. We try to avoid bombastic statements here at Winding Road, but it’s quite difficult when a vehicle is as good as the ATS. Never before have we seen a vehicle that seems so able to dethrone the mighty 3-Series, and in turn become the new measuring stick for the sports sedan segment. It’s great to look at, both inside and out, but more importantly it is absolutely excellent to drive.
