Audi is presenting the convertible version of the new A3. The four-seat A3 Cabriolet and its soft top promise fun, sporty motoring.
Rule number one of the S7 has to do with where it sits in the world—it is not merely a V-8 variant of the A7 (albeit a biturbocharged V-8 with 420 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque). That’s a difficult rule to remember, particularly when one looks at Audi’s current lineup.
Swapping out the 4.2-liter from the S5 was not a decision we originally agreed with, even after sampling the 3.0-liter in the S4. The character of this coupe, we felt, demanded a V-8, and anything less would take away from its subtle grand touring qualities. We were wrong.
Back in December, Mercedes-Benz unveiled its updated E-Class Sedan and Wagon. Now, we’ve gotten our first look at the sportier-looking Coupe and Cabriolet. Immediately noticeable on all four variants are the new headlights. The dual lamps that have identified the E-Class for the past several generations have been replaced with a unit that is more in keeping with current design language.
Much like it did with the old RS4, Audi has followed up its RS5 Coupe with an RS5 Cabriolet.
Mechanically, the GTI Cabriolet doesn’t depart much from the hardtop car. The 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder is still under hood, sending 207 horsepower to the front wheels via either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Seventeen and eighteen-inch wheels are still available as well.
Just days after showing off its new 911 Cabriolet at the Detroit auto show, Porsche has given up the goods on its two-seater convertible, the 2013 Porsche Boxster.
Porsche has just revealed all of the sexy details behind its new 911 Cabriolet, both in Carrera and Carrera S forms. You can check out the full enchilada here, or feel free to jump right in to our full review of the 991 911 Coupe, here.
Porsche execs made much of the fair weather we’re having here in Detroit (yes, it’s very nearly “warm” here in the Motor City today, which is a bit terrifying), claiming to have somehow engineered the sunny skies to better serve the launch of its all new 911 convertible.
Details and images have emerged on the softtop version of Porsche’s latest 911. The 911 Cabriolet will be available in the same variations as the hardtop, namely the base Carrera trim, and the 400-horsepower Carrera S trim. Transmissions choices will also be the same as the hardtop, with a seven-speed manual as standard or an optional PDK dual-clutch seven-speed automatic.
This was my first experience with Audi’s 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 and S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission, and I’ll admit, it’s an impressive package. Left to its own devices, it functions quickly and unobtrusively, delivering shifts at logical points in the rev range. Slot it over to manual, though, and it becomes quite a lot of fun. The paddle shifters are appropriately placed and sized, and under hard throttle, upshifts elicit a pleasant burp from the quad exhaust tips.
At this year’s GTI Meet in Wörthersee, Austria, Volkswagen has unveiled its Golf R Cabriolet concept. After displaying the Golf Cabriolet in Geneva, it has decided to go a step further and explore the concept of a droptop version of its sporty Golf R.
Volkswagen will show a new convertible at the Geneva Motor Show, the 2012 Golf Cabriolet.
Kiss the CLK-Class goodbye—the debut of the new 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible marks the end of CLK badging, but ushers in a sexy new convertible poised to take on the Audi A5 and BMW 3-Series droptops.
The new 2010 Audi S5 Cabriolet looks good from any angle. Even from the inside of the back seat with the soft-top snuggly closed. The room isn’t adequate for someone six-foot six, but that’s not the point. Viewed from this slightly cramped vantage, the fact that Audi attends to details in a most exhaustive manner seems abundantly clear.
