As the magnificent W12 now exits stage left, I reflect how pleasurable the Continental GT Mulliner is to not only drive, but experience.
While the end of production of the W12 engine marks the end of an era for Bentley, it also represents a significant step forward as the company looks to the future of sustainable transportation.

This week we’ve got the keys to the drop-top version of Bentley’s most performance focused road car. It has the distinction of being the fastest four-seat convertible currently available, with its 626 horsepower W12 capable of dishing out 0-60 mph sprints in four seconds flat on its way to a 203 mph top speed. But there’s a lot more to the GT Speed than just sheer thrust.
Bentley has been teasing us with an open top grand touring machine based on the Mulsanne platform ever since the Arnage-based Azure bowed out a few years ago. Such a vehicle has yet to appear in showrooms, but that doesn’t mean Bentley has forgotten about the project. The highly exclusive automaker intends to make that clear with the Grand Convertible Concept on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show this year, and while it isn’t a production-ready example, it’s a good indicator that automaker has every intention of moving forward with the droptop if interest is there.

The CLS, Gran Coupe, and A7 run the gamut, with base models retailing for well under six figures, while the AMG, M, and RS versions easily creep past $100,000. We’ve known it was coming for some time. Yes, we’re talking about Bentley’s SUV. Called the EXP 9 F (wouldn’t you like to have dinner with the guy that came up with such a catchy name?), this is Bentley’s take on a grand touring SUV.
Following through on a promise made in 2008, Bentley has just unveiled a Continental that is 40 percent more efficient than any that’s come before. The biturbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8 produces 500 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque, allowing the GT V8 to hit 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is 188 miles per hour. Power is sent to all four wheels (as is Conti GT custom) through a new, eight-speed automatic transmission.

Japanese über-tuners Wald have been wowing us, and subsequently you, with their Black Bison body kits for years now.
