On the road, the GTC wasn’t quite so freight-train-like as a full-tilt W-12 or Speed model. Don’t be mistaken, the wave of torque that this engine could produce was admirable and easily accessible. But, the V-8 wasn’t as prone to flattening us to our luxuriously upholstered seats as it was to gently pressing us back under hard throttle.
Think of this car as the GTI W12’s older cousin, many times removed. Modified by the team at 034 Motorsports, what started as a standard Mk4 is now powered by a 3.0-liter, turbocharged V-6. That doesn’t sound very special, right? Well, it’s mounted in the middle. That’s right, this is a mid-engine GTI.
The CLS, Gran Coupe, and A7 run the gamut, with base models retailing for well under six figures, while the AMG, M, and RS versions easily creep past $100,000. If the rumors from British rag Auto Express are any indication, Germany’s entries could see some serious, high-end competition from none other than Bentley.
Yet when you’re behind the wheel, these figures and metrics and the fact that there are faster, cheaper cars available mean very little. Driving an Aston Martin isn’t a performance choice so much as a lifestyle choice. You feel a little bit taller, a little bit happier just standing next to a beauty like this. Driving an Aston Martin singles you out as a connoisseur, someone that could have a Ferrari, or Lamborghini, or Bentley, but recognizes that there’s more to life than 0-60 times and top speeds that you’ll never hit. That doesn’t mean this isn’t an inspiring car to drive, though, as we found out during a long weekend testing it.
Bentley has declared its intention to return to the world of racing. Ten years on from the debut of the Continental GT Concept, the British brand has debuted a racing version, called the Continental GT3 Concept.
A while back, our spy shooter sneaked a single picture of the facelifted Bentley Continental GT without any camouflage. Now, he sends us these images of the same car wearing camo, but driving on the road, offering us new angles.
Our beloved spy photographer sent over this photo of the updated Bentley Continental GT, which is likely to debut at the Paris Motor Show this fall.
