Sam Altman is Chairman of Y Combinator, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm know for funding Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe, Reddit and DoorDash. Y Combinator’s portfolio has an estimated value in excess of $80B. Maybe he knows some things of value. He happens to be a racer, so we naturally were even more interested in his thoughts.
We’ve compiled a list of some of Winding Road staff favorites of places to eat in Austin when you are here for a race weekend. Mind you, this is by no means exhaustive, and even this author admits we’ve left off some obvious (and not-so-obvious) locales (and we’re not even going to get in the BBQ argument).

The Pirelli World Challenge TC (Touring Car) class is shaping up to be quite interesting in 2017. While multiple makes and models will run, there is a good chance that the fat part of the field will be made up of BMW M235i Racing cars. BMW finished first in two elements of the 2016 TC championship, the drivers points and the team points, which bodes well for drivers running the M235i in 2017. We’ve profiled the car.

As auto racing was beginning to gain popularity in the United States in the 1940s and early 1950s, most events were held on public streets. Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin’s open road course was among many across the country that played host to numerous SCCA events throughout the era. After legislation brought a ban to racing on public roads due to safety concerns brought on by a crash at Watkins Glen in 1952, a man by the name of Clif Tufte brought together members of the Chicago Region of the Sports Car Club of America to develop plans to build a permanent private road course in Elkhart Lake.
Our friends at Motorsport Retro bring us this collection of fanastic images from last month’s inaugural Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a massive vintage racing event held by the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association. The famed race track hosted more than 500 of the world’s finest and most historic racecars as they competed on the recently reconfigured road course as well as running exhibition events on the famed 2.5 mile oval.
Being the semi-literate individuals we are, when we’re not out at the track or hustling down our favorite backroads, the staff here at Winding Road have been known to read an occasional book or two when the urge strikes us. Summertime has a way of offering more time for such endeavors, be it through increased travel or simply carving out time to relax and enjoy the warm weather, so we thought we’d share a few of our favorite reads with you.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the team has been hard at work putting together the documentary chronicling Winding Road Racing’s journey to, and participation in, last year’s 25 Hours of Thunderhill. Piloting a Ford Mustang Boss 302S, the crew took on the longest race on the 2013 race season calendar, and as an added bonus, you may recall that they did pretty well in their class. Due out in April, you can check out the trailer for the upcoming film below. We’re biased, of course, but we think you’ll really enjoy it.
