Video: Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 vs. Form Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca

News I By John Beltz Snyder I October 17, 2013
In this video, Chevy pits its Nürburgring-worthy 2014 Camaro Z/28 against the rival Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca at the General Motors proving grounds in Milford, Michigan.
Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer, chose the Boss 302 Laguna Seca over the Shelby GT500 stating that, per Chevy’s own tests, the Laguna Seca is simply faster on the track.
The Z/28 crushes the Boss on the road course, with a time of 1:53.71 vs. the Ford’s 1:59.05—a difference of about 5.3 seconds. The Camaro also records some pretty impressive metrics throughout the lap, with faster entry speed, better deceleration, etc.
Chevrolet credits the impressive performance to such features as the carbon-ceramic brakes, superior tires, and suspension technology, which Oppenheiser explains in the video.
Of course, take this slapping with a grain of salt, as the test was performed by Chevrolet.
Chevy is hopeful about future tests putting the Camaro Z/28 up against the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Nissan GT-R. We can’t wait to see that.
