TMI AutoTech Offers US-Exclusive Turbocharged Ariel Atom 3S
The Ariel Atom has been distorting faces here in the US since 2008 by way of TMI AutoTech, the Ariel Atom’s exclusive manufacture in the States since 2008. The 3S, TMI’s newest offering, is a US-only version of Atom that lands between the standard 240 horsepower Ariel Atom and the completely bananas supercharged V8 model that cranks out 500 horsepower. But lest you think the 3S might be a performance compromise, let’s take a look at some of the numbers.
The 3S features a Borg Warner turbocharger bolted to its 2.4-liter four cylinder Honda engine, pushing output to 365 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. It also boasts a five stage traction control system, Alcon four piston brake calipers with two-piece floating discs, adjustable dampers and your choice of a close ratio manual gearbox or a paddle-shifted Sadev six-speed sequential unit.
Weighing in at just 1350 pounds, the Atom 3S’s performance stats are awe inspiring. 0-60 mph takes less than 2.8 seconds, 0-100 in 6.7 seconds, and the quarter mile is dispatched in an estimated 10.7 seconds. Also, as you’ll see below, it’s capable of putting down a blistering 1:58.8 lap time at Virginia International Raceway.
