Rumors: Spy Shots—The New Porsche 911 Turbo

News I By Doran Dal Pra I January 27, 2012
New spy shots courtesy of Carscoop show that a new 911 Turbo will be arriving hot on the heels of Porsche’s unveiling of the new 991 series. The new Turbo will feature a 3.8-liter flat-six pushing north of 500 horsepower through the car’s all-wheel-drive system, and drivers will likely be able to choose between the dual clutch seven-speed PDK gearbox, or Porsche’s new seven-speed manual transmission.

Despite the camouflage on this test car, we know the Turbo will have several distinct styling cues that set it apart from other 991 models including larger wheels, a retractable rear wing, and a wider rear end among others.

As the new 991 series makes significant use of aluminum in its body panels to reduce weight, we can expect the lighter weight to have an improvement in fuel consumption and emissions in the Turbo over its predecessor. Familiar technologies like Porsche Traction Management, Porsche Stability Management, and Porsche Torque Vectoring will be present to keep things under control.

It’s unclear as to when exactly the new Turbo will drop, but its arrival is eagerly anticipated.
