Rumors: Spy Shots—BMW i8

While Tom Cruise may not be behind the wheel in these recent spy photos of BMW’s i8 coupe, the shots do show that the Bavarian manufacturer is sticking fairly close to the concept car’s unique design.

The photos, which appeared up on MotorAuthority, reveal that while the futuristic glass greenhouse and windshield interactive computers we saw in the most recent Mission: Impossible movie are gone, the tapered nose, and sharp haunches, and Ferrari 599-esque flying buttresses out back will remain.

The i8 should feature a sporting hybrid powertrain and some impressive stats—the run to 60 miles-per-hour should land around five seconds, and it will run onto a top speed of 155 mph. The car’s three-cylinder gasoline engine will drive the rear wheels, and the electric motor will be responsible for driving the front. Due out sometime in late 2013, the i8 will bow as a 2014 model year vehicle and should fetch in the neighborhood of $200,000.
