Rumors: Industry Report—Ferrari Enzo Successor Coming Soon

News I By Doran Dal Pra I March 13, 2012

(Photo Credit: Ed Callo [torquespeak]) Ferrari is famous for creating cars that take current automotive performance benchmarks and smash them to bits. Take, for example, the recently introduced F12berlinetta. It’s 6.3-liter V-12 develops a colossal 740 horsepower, making it not only the most powerful Ferrari ever made, but also showing up cars like the Lamborghini Aventador and Aston Martin One-77 whose power output was previously at the top of the game.

The Ferrari Enzo was one of the stops on Ferrari’s relentless quest to shatter performance perceptions. The Enzo was designed as a halo car in the same vein as the F40 and F50 and when it arrived in 2002, it’s Formula 1 roots and massive power launched it to the top of the performance chart and made it the wallpaper of choice on countless desktop backgrounds.
Now, Automotive News Europe is reporting that the successor to the legendary Enzo could arrive as early as January 2013 at the Detroit Motor Show, and be shown to a select group of well-heeled customers by the end of this year. Automotive News Europe sat down with Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo at the Geneva Motor Show where he confirmed that the company’s new halo model was imminent. The yet-unnamed supercar will be faster and more powerful than even the F12berlinetta, should make extensive use of carbon fiber, and make predictably huge horsepower from a naturally aspirated V-12 engine.
Here’s to our understanding of performance standards being blown into the weeds. Again.
