Rumors: Industry Report—Convertible GT-86 Gets The Green Light

News I By Doran Dal Pra I March 01, 2012
There’s no doubt that the Toyota GT-86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ rear-wheel-drive sports car has been one of the most eagerly anticipated vehicles of the last few years. And hot on the heels of the car’s unveiling is this juicy news—A recently published interview on AutoBild with Tetsuya Tada, a lead developer of the car, has confirmed that we can expect a droptop version to accompany the coupe.
While the news pertains directly to the Toyota GT-86—in the United States it will be called the Scion FR-S—it’s likely a convertible will arrive at some point on our shores—there have already been rumors of a convertible Subaru BRZ floating about. Regardless of which model gets its top lopped off, it’ll definitely be giving the Mazda MX-5 a run for its money.
