It’s no secret that McLaren has been hard at work on creating a successor to its legendary F1 supercar. We have featured it twice in past Rumors posts back in February and April, and now CarsUK is reporting that McLaren will be unveiling its highly anticipated hypercar–codenamed P12–to a select (i.e.–wealthy) group of clientele next month during the Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach, California, which runs from August 13 to 19.
According to the report, McLaren actually has two completed cars that it will be bringing to the next month’s event. In addition, the report shares that the title “P12” will be dropped and “McLaren 799” could become the car’s new moniker, and that previous horsepower estimates are rumored to be blown far into the weeds. When we last wrote about the car in April, power was rumored to be around 800 combined horsepower from a tradtional gasoline engine and a KERS regenerative system. Now, however, we are hearing that the new McLaren could make as much as 1000 horsepower, thanks to 800 horsepower from a 3.8-liter V-8, and an additional 200 horsepower from a KERS system. The dash to 60 miles per hour would be shattered in less than 2.5 seconds, and the McLaren will be quicker to that mark than even the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.
The car is rumored to make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show in September, but keep an eye on the interwebs during the Pebble Beach event next month, because it will surely be flush with all the glorious details of McLaren’s newest masterpiece.
