As we reported last month, Logan Sargeant was on the heals of becoming the first American Formula 1 driver since Alexander Rossi, and the first full-time American in the field since Scott Speed in 2007.
Well, it’s finally official – Logan Sargeant will drive full-time for Williams F1 next season in Formula 1! The rookie Formula 2 driver earned more than enough super license points over the weekend in Abu Dhabi, after qualifying 6th and finishing 6th in the sprint race & 5th in the feature race.
There was little doubt that he would have a solid weekend after his solid qualifying performance, but there were numerous times when his voice seemed anxious on team radio.
Sargeant, hailing from Ft Lauderdale, Florida has been a relatively unknown name in the States, however he has been a prominent force in Europe since the 2020 FIA F3 Championship where he finished 3rd in the Drivers’ standings (just four points behind the Champion Oscar Piastri). His next season in F3 wasn’t as spectacular since he was driving for backmarkers HWA Race Lab, however he finished in a remarkable 7th in the standings in 2021.
Graduating to FIA F2 this year, he had a fantastic rookie season, seeing him finish 4th in the standings, and securing the top Rookie spot.
