Gran Turismo 6 Trailer Debuts, Will Arrive In 2013
Our number one question about
Gran Turismo 6, the newest installment in the epic racing series, wasn’t one of how many cars or tracks there would be. It was a question of when. The answer is 2013. Yeah, you’ll have a new
GT in your Playstation before the year’s end.
The other big question mark didn’t so much surround the game as it did the system. Would
Gran Turismo 6 be the first in the series on the upcoming Playsation? Well, it could be. According to a post on
Gamespot, Polyphony President Kazunori Yamauchi said a PS4 version of
GT6 is “in mind for the future.” The PS3 will be the first recipient, though.
Besides the release of a 97-second trailer, our friends at
Jalopnik have broke a few other details. Players will have access to 1200 cars when the game debuts. Whether they’ll need to invest hours behind the wheel of a 1989 Honda Civic from the game’s used car lot in order to access the fun portion of those 1200 cars remains to be seen. Also, there’s no word on how many of the 1200 vehicles will be variations on the Nissan GT-R, Mazda MX-5, or Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (over 70 of the cars in GT5 were variants of these three).
The other big news on the car front is that players will have a greater hand in customization. Whether that will mean broad, Forza Motorsport-style paint, wheel, and decal options or a GT2-style racing mod setup remains to be seen.
There will be 33 tracks in 71 different configurations available straight from the box, while the nifty track generator from GT5 will also be on offer.
As of this writing, Polyphony is aiming for a release by the end of 2013. Players that anxiously awaited Gran Turismo 5 (hands raised) have already consumed their grains of salt. Until more information becomes available, check out game’s first official trailer.
