Ford Demos 2015 Mustang GT Line Lock Feature

Cars, News I By Winding Road Staff I April 22, 2014
Those familiar with drag racing know that the key to a fast run is a great launch, and the key to a great launch is good traction. While some might think those big, smoky burnouts performed just before lining up at the tree are there simply for dramatic effect, they’re actually done to heat up the tires and increase their grip.

Line locks electronically lock the front brakes without preventing the rear wheels from spinning, and they have been available from the aftermarket for ages. However, this might be the first time we’ve ever seen the feature offered as a factory option. Beyond their racing benefits, it should also allow even the most novice of drivers the ability to perform some pretty impressive burnouts.

Here Ford Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak and stability control engineer Scott Mlynarczyk give us a rundown of how the new feature works, mainly by shredding some rear tires into molten rubber. Looks as though there will be no shortage of fun to had with this particular upcoming addition to the 2015 Ford Mustang GT.
