FAB Design Takes On McLaren 12C Spyder

News I By Brandon Turkus I January 30, 2013
It’s a risk taking a supercar to one of the many aftermarket tuners out there. Take this McLaren 12C Spyder, tweaked by Swiss tuner FAB Design.

On the one hand, FAB Design fitted a new stainless steel exhaust system and reflashed the ECU, netting an extra 64 horsepower from the 3.8-liter, biturbocharged V-8. That bumps the 12C’s 60-mile-per-hour time to a very brisk three seconds. We’re also guessing the new exhaust setup has gifted the McLaren with a more potent singing voice.

On the other hand, FAB has fitted the Terso exterior package. Gone are the graceful, clean lines, having been replaced by jagged cuts and sharp angles. The wing looks to have come from a Boeing, and the seats look like a Halloween decoration.

While we like the extra power of this FAB McLaren, we’d have to pass on the body kit.

The sharpened angles along the air intakes are a dramatic departure from the McLaren’s original shape. The 20-inch wheels aren’t very attractive, either.

The tail is entirely too busy, thanks to the huge air intakes, and the fact that there happen to be two wings. We think one would suffice.

What happened to the leather around the steering wheel?
