BMW to invest $1.7 billion

BMW announced plans to invest $1.7 billion into US electric vehicle manufacturing, with the bulk of the sum being allocated for EV production at the BMW NA plant in Spartanburg, SC.

The automaker announced a partnership with Envision AESC, which will build a cell factory in South Carolina, as well, which will supply the automaker with the parts it needs for future EVs. BMW said in a press release that the plant’s annual capacity will be around 30 gigawatt-hours. This is in addition to four other battery factories that will be built in Europe and China, to supply vehicles built for those markets.
