Ford has announced their new 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Mustang, which gets tacked onto an excellent lineup of platforms on track around the world. This is the fifth-new motorsports Mustang announced this year; it joins the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, National Hot Rod Association Funny Car division, Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, and grassroots Cobra Jet Mustangs, which have all seen a nice share of Mustangs on the podium this year. Let’s also not forget the Mustang GT4, which is currently campaigned in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, and FIA British GT4 Championship.
What’s particularly interesting about this latest tube-framed pony car’s development, is it was developed as a joint effort between Ford Design and the Ford Performance Technical Center in Concord, North Carolina. Engineers from this facility had a hand in developing all of the chassis that have debuted in the past year. The tools and simulators utilized at the center are advancing both race and production vehicles for Ford customers; count on a little shared DNA between their tube-framed racecars and exciting new production vehicles, such as the new 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500.
Ben Kennedy, NASCAR managing director of racing operations and international development on the new-generation Mustang: “Ford and NASCAR have enjoyed a long and storied partnership, and the iconic Mustang has solidified its place within that legacy with an impressive performance in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. We’re looking forward to seeing what the newest generation of the Mustang will do on the track.”
The 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Mustang will make its race debut during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 15.
