WRR TV: Racecraft – Why You Really Must Have A Radio, Part 1

Features, Racing I By Winding Road Staff I June 03, 2016
There are many reasons to have a radio in your car and a crew chief (could be your girlfriend or husband) on your pit wall. One of them is illustrated here by Team Winding Road driver Tyler Brown. After being dive bombed and forced off course on lap 1, Brown moved back 7 positions. A few laps later, a full course yellow came out, leading to a restart. On the restart, Brown gets 6 of his lost positions back because he has a radio and knows when the green comes out while his competitors hesitate. At many tracks, drivers farther back in the pack often can’t see the green until well after it is thrown because of hills (as at Road America) or turns (as at COTA).
