The Winding Road Hot List: Volume 4

Features, Lifestyle I By Winding Road Staff I December 21, 2012
As the Winding Road Showroom continues to grow, we come across lots of cool products that we geek out over, whether it’s a must-have automotive accessory, flashy watch, high-tech gadget, interesting book, or gorgeous car art. Here in the Hot List, we have gathered a few that we really like, and we think you’ll enjoy them, too.

This week, we’re featuring a couple great calendars to start off the New Year, some race-inspired apparel, and a couple cars catching air.

The 2013 Official Scuderia Ferrari Calendar gives fans a close-up view of the team through stunning images taken by the world´s best Formula 1 photographers. Each shot lets you re-live the excitement of the Scuderia’s F1 season throughout the entire year. The large format and high-grade printing add to their impact, and the new calendar also gives owners access to online images and information.

The 2013 edition of Ferrari Myth features a dazzling mix of Ferraris built for the road and the track—from ultra rare classics of the 1950s and 1960s to the newest models to emerge from Maranello (A full list with details is included below). The calendar’s extra-large format—more than two feet wide and 1.6 feet tall— means that each car is displayed on scale that really does it justice. And Günther Raupp’s carefully composed images and meticulous lighting bring out details and nuances that reward repeated viewing over the course of each month.

iRacing.com is taking 50 percent off all new memberships for until January 3. This is a favorite of ours, and of lots of driving simulator fans. You can create your own leagues and tournaments, and even attend iRacing’s interactive video driving school. Get the deal while it lasts.

Around the world lies a number of long-forgotten raceways; windswept and abandoned, the derelict pit roads and crumbling concrete are all that remains of once great race tracks. From the NASCAR heartland of North Wilkesboro and Middle Georgia to the great European super speedways at Monza and Brooklands. All photographed as they are now, but remembered in their prime.

This poster features the famous shot of Jackie Oliver airborne in the #48 Lotus Formula 1 car of 1967. It measures 24 by 36 inches, and would look great anywhere aerial automotive acrobatics are appreciated.

If you are more of a fan of Porsches getting off the ground, check out this one. This iconic poster features an incredible shot of the Martini Porsche airborne in 1974. It’s the same size as the one above, 24 by 36.

A great way to get into racing without taking out a second mortgage is with Spec Miata. To race, you’ll have to have a car built to spec. This book will show you how to make it.
