Racecar Profile: Phoenix Raceworks F1K.12 Formula 1000

Cars, Features I By Winding Road Staff I March 28, 2014
Formula 1000 is an open wheel SCCA class that utilizes a 1000cc motorcycle engine in a single seat race car with full racing aero, chassis tuning, suspension and brakes. 200 horsepower may not sound like an excessive amount of grunt for a car, but consider this: A race-ready F1000 weights 800 pounds (or less), which means these F1000 cars actually have a better power-to-weight ratio than a Bugatti Veyron. To put it another way – F1000 racing is serious business.

Phoenix Raceworks was one of the first manufactures to build a car for the F1000, or FB class. Debuting in early 2007, the F1K.07 went on to win numerous regional and national races and has established a number of track records as well.

In the subsequent seven years, Phoenix Raceworks has refined the recipe for their F1000 offering, now known as the F1K.12, and it’s available either for immediate delivery or built to customer specification, if desired. Here’s a rundown of the car:
