And Now, A Mini Doing A Backflip

Features I By Brandon Turkus I February 19, 2013
“Sometimes, we need to do things just to do them.” We imagine that was the discussion within the zany halls of Mini, when it was decided that the Anglo-German brand would send a modified Countryman to the town of Tignes, in the French Alps, in order for it to do a backflip. Publicity stunt, thy name is Mini.
The driver, Guerlain Chicherit, is an extreme sportsman, freestyle skier, and rally driver, native to France. He’s had a diverse career, winning the world championship in freestyle skiing four times, while netting a pair of French rally championships.
Chicherit’s attempt was the first involving a car that ended in a perfect landing (we shudder to think of what would qualify as an imperfect landing). It was also the first to be done without the aid of a specialized ramp that used moving elements to increase the car’s rotation.
