Ten Reasons to Love the Gulf Oil Livery

Rumors of Ford’s development of a GT successor naturally got us thinking about the original GT40, which always looked particularly fetching dressed in the Gulf Oil livery. The livery made its debut in 1967, when the Gulf Oil Corporation’s vice president, Grady Davis, decided to enter his own GT40 as an independent entry at Daytona and Sebring. That same year Ford also decided to withdraw from sports car racing and Gulf Oil Corporation took over the sponsorship of the newly acquired GT40 race team.

 

Despite the fact that Gulf Oil stopped existing as a corporate entity in the early 1990s, the iconic livery has been applied to numerous vehicles in the subsequent years, and it looks fantastic on just about all of them.
