WR30 American Driver

One of the best and best attended events clustered around the opening of the North American International Automobile Show was the ICOTY (International Car of the Year) awards evening. I’ve described the ICOTY program in this space in the past, and this year it had some special significance for me.

There were, of course, the car and truck awards. I was a member of the eleven-person judging panel, as were my former colleagues Denise McCluggage (AutoWeek) and Kevin Smith (Edmunds), and like them I was also a presenter. Nobody’s perfect, but I did cast votes for some of the winners.

- Sports Car of the Year… Audi R8
- Sedan of the Year… Honda Accord
- Luxury Car of the Year… Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG
- Minivan of the Year… Chrysler Town & Country
- Entry Level Car of the Year… Volvo C30
- Crossover of the Year… Buick Enclave
- SUV of the Year…Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid
- Pickup of the Year… GMC Sierra Denali
- Earth Angel… General Motors
