Saab 9-3 Aero Under Investigation
Bloomberg News reported that General Motor’s Saab 9-3 Aero sedan is being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The probe is to answer five complaints of loss of power braking. Only one crash was reported, with no injuries, related to the alleged defect. The investigation may affect 49,932 9-3 Aero's from the 2006-2007 model year equipped with the 2.8L turbocharged V-6 engine.
According to the Detroit News, half of all NHTSA inquiries result in a recall.

Hmmm... Validity of defect claims against a car is proportional to the coolness of the car. While a 9-3 (=6?) is no Alfa 8C, the claims are made against the Aero, which I understand to be the hottest version of this particular car.
Therefore, I find it unlikely that these claims are valid.

Bumblebee, I think you are wrong in your assumption. Investigations of safety defects are based on claims of problems with a car regardless of "coolness." I don't think NTHSA would recognise "coolness" if it hit them between the eyes! As far as validity of the claims is concerned, they will be valid if problems are found and a recall is issued. They will be shown to be invalid if no problems are found. The main thing that an NTHSA investigation does is it pinpoints an area for the manufacturer to take a close look at to see if the manufacturer can find the condition that reproduces the problem, and then do a fix for it if a problem is found.

Saab Automobile USA is obviously cooperating with the NHTSA on this investigation. Please note that U.S. sales of the Saab 9-3 2.8 V6 Aero for model year 2006 and 2007 combined were a total of 9,669. The image above shows a 2008 model, recognizable by the Aero-X inspired front end design.

Sure there has been only one crash, but how many pants were ruined when the brakes "weren't there"?
I think Saab should be held responsible for them too..........
