Artist Pedals Car Sculpture to Canadian Ticket
The artist/creator of a pedal-powered 1986 Buick Regal will fight the traffic ticket given him by Toronto police for operating an unsafe vehicle.
Michel de Broin, the German artist who created the Shared Propulsion Car was pulled over on October 25th while pedaling the Buick, nine-blocks away from its intended destination of the Mercer Union art gallery. The car, which has been liberated of its engine, suspension, and transmission, is aimed at illustrating the paradox of an American luxury car, powered by pedaling.

De Broin faces a fine of $60-500 for the ticket, which his lawyer says is the result of a very trumped up charge. Terry L. Fox, who works in an adviser capacity for the Canadian Automobile Association, said he accepted the case free of charge because he believes the authorities went “overboard.
