Joint Venture: Ford Co-Developing Cannabis Car?

Hot on the heels of news that Ford is putting soy foam in the seat cushions of their 2008 Mustangs comes word that the automaker has engaged in a three-way partnership to develop car parts made from hemp and other natural fibers.

The agreement sees the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) investing £500,000 (around $1M USD) into the project with the Blue Oval and growers Hemcore to develop recyclable and sustainable vehicles. The hope is that the project will lead to the creation of organic body panels, as well as plant-based solutions for metal and oil-based parts.

Ford investing in hemp-based car construction is nothing new. The automaker actually built a prototype in 1941 made from plant fibers (see the YouTube clip above).

This could explain why they've had their heads in the clouds for so long.

what about all those laws in the states prohibiting hemp as an industrial material? or was that just california?

regardless, doesn't look like it's coming this way anyway.

André

Let it come up against my Mustang. I'll smoke it!

(I just had to.)

they really should go all the way and make it a factory-production diesel that will run on veggie oil, and then push to legalize hemp in this nation, and then run the car on the stuff (the pressed seeds, not the smoke!!)... that will prevent corn prices, beef prices, and milk prices from rising. and also decriminalize a food that is far less toxic than cigarettes! And they can make the cars out of the "by-products"!!
Hemp for Victory!! (there must be a You-tube video of the "Hemp for Victory" movie trailers that ran during WWII... Well, it is legalize hemp or be held hostage by the world's oil producers, who are not our friends!! And have "by products" that can make plastic, better paper, cars, clothing, rope, calm nerves, alleviate AIDS wasting syndrome, stop nausea from chemo, and reverse glaucoma, to name a few benefits!! And decriminalize non-violent or harmful behavior!! A very easy choice!! And legalize all drugs while we're at it, to stop legislating morality!! Like ritalin and adderal are healthier than cocaine!!
Currently it is legal to grow hemp in China, so if the US is really concerned about global competition they will legalize this stuff pronto, as have the Brits, I hear!! Otherwise, it's lose the global hemp oil market to China to satisfy the beer and cigarette companies.. I DON'T THINK SO!!!

i forgot: of course , the oil companies will fight legalizing hemp to preseve their oil monopoly, even if it means higher food prices for everyone in the world. there have already been protests in mexico about higher-priced tortillas. this is just the beginning.
