Toyota Looking to Add Small Vehicles to U.S. Range
Two of Toyota’s recent concept cars may be getting the green light for U.S. production, as a means towards increasing fleet average fuel economy before 2020.
The A-BAT compact pickup hybrid shown at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, and the Urban Cruiser small SUV which is coming to Geneva this year in production trim, could be two of Toyota’s newest cars on American roads. President of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Jim Lentz, says that there is room for both vehicles in the U.S. market, but neither has yet been officially approved for U.S. sale.
Said Lentz, "As we look to 2020, when we have to get 35 miles per gallon (fleetwide), that's a big challenge."
Lentz believes that both vehicles, which would slot in to the smallest end of their respective classes, represent what customers are increasingly looking for. “Customers are moving away from traditional passenger cars,

Bring on a non-appliance driving A-BAT with functionality and a DIESEL engine (Hybrids are a joke!)and I will gladly replace my gas drinking truck with it!

I agree, leave the hybrid system out of the A-Bat. Use diesel.

I'd be interested, but I know that ABAT is gonna be stupid expensive and not cost effective.
