eBay Auction of the Day: 1969 Fiat 850 Jolly Shellete
Built on top of Fiat’s 850 spider platform, this 1969 Jolly Shellete looks like an ill-maintained extra from a sixties Beach Blanket Bingo style movie, though it does follow the pink theme we’ve hit on recently.

First the good news. The Shellete, as one might expect from an open Italian car with a wicker interior, is extraordinarily rare, with the seller claiming a tiny 19 examples were produced in total. The car’s most distinguishing feature (which is saying quiet a lot) the wicker interior with teak wood accents, is either in good shape, or able to be rewoven in fresh wicker. Also the Fiat’s cool Campgnolo wheels look to be in excellent repair.
And the bad news? Well, just about every part of the Jolly not mentioned above is in horrible shape. Rust is comprehensive, many peripherals seem to have gone missing, and the engine long ago suffered a fire, and is currently in unknown running trim.
Though this Fiat clearly isn’t a project for the faint of heart, it does look to offer its buyer a nearly singular vehicle for a very small upfront price. We must confess, we have no idea how much wicker-weaving runs per hour, but we have a feeling that the lucky winning bidder will end up paying a bit more than the Jolly’s purchase price (at only $1,500 as of this writing) in resto bills. Labor in love.

Too bad the fire stopped at the engine compartment. If there truly was a God, the whole thing would have burned to the ground.
